So, we arrived last night at the happiest place on earth. We took the Magical Express from the airport and as we waited a while Ryan said "I thought they said it was magical. If it was magical it would be here right now." The Magical Express is just a fancy name for hotel shuttle BUT it is magical in that we didn't have to wait for our luggage and just hopped on and our luggage was delivered to the room for us.
We got to the resort and had not had lunch even though it was late afternoon. We are staying at Port Orleans-Riverside. The rooms are "princess rooms." We have headboards that light up and have a fireworks show. There are portraits of the princesses on the wall. The border on the top of the wall has "friends" of Disney characters like Chip, the mice from Cinderella, the genie from Alladin, etc. There is a hologram pictures of Princess Tiana. It is ornate and very fun. We delivered a few things to the room, ate a quick "counter service" meal at the resort, and took a water taxi to Downtown Disney. There was a rainstorm as we were on the boat (it was covered) but we had a few minutes of running through the rain. This was after we saw a little girl vomit in the bushes at the resort. We thought things were not looking good for the trip. So, we went to a huge Disney store where we got ponchos for rain and princess autograph books for the girls to get the Princesses' autographs. It was so crowded and there were tired little kids and little girls dressed like princesses whining and crying. Again, I wondered what we had gotten ourselves into. We took our water taxi back and gave the girls baths and went to bed.
So, Sunday morning was the big day. We had Bibbidy Bobbidi Boutique at 10 a.m. at Magic Kingdom. We thought we'd have no problems getting there really early but were slower than we thought and were afraid we'd miss the shuttle. This was what the girls were most excited about. We made it 4 minutes late. We ran through Main Street USA toward the castle to get there on time. When we got there the girls were called princesses and taken to a dressing room where the two dresses they chose were haning. They were both Elsa from Frozen. It just came out Thanksgiving. Then, they got fancy hairstyles and make-up. The hairdressers said they live at the top of the Castle and get up at 5 a.m. to braid Rapunzel's hair. They were really sweet. They waved a wand over their head and pixie dust (glitter) fell from their wand and they turned them around to see themselves in the dress with hair and make up. The girls picked little white fur shawls that were so cute. They wore their outfits all day and other guests and workers called them princesses, Elsa, or Elsas.
Next we went to Cinderella's Castle (the boutique was also there) for lunch with the princesses. First, they met Cinderella in the foyer that was decorated for Christmas and of course got her autograph. Then we went up the "royal staircase" to the restaurant. We met Auroa, Snow White, Jasmine, and Ariel. They each came to the table and talked to the girls, signed their books, and had their picture taken with them. Charley gave Ariel a bracelet she made for her. The girls were called princesses and we were called the "royal family" because of our association with them.
After this we had a couple of hours to spare before meeting more royalty. We rode It's a Small World, Mad Tea Party, Alladin's Magic Carpet, and Winnie the Poo ride. We road the Mad Tea Party twice. We had control over the turning of the tea cups and I got dizzy and thought I might pass out (Pat passed on this one because he thought he'd be sick). Ryan's favorite ride was It's a Small World. Charley's favorite ride was the Mad Tea Party-she was squealing as we spun. She was having so much fun. Charley had her picture with Winnie and Tigger. She was so excited and said they were so soft and furry. Ryan said she was scared of them and didn't want to meet them or have her picture taken with them but gave us her autograph book to get an autograph.
Then, we went to Ariel's Grotto to meet her. She had on her tail and when we left she said we needed to tell Flounder she was looking for him if we saw him. Charley took this seriously and was looking for him. Then, we met Rapunzel (with autographs and pictures) and got another picture with Snow White. She was visiting Rapunzel's castle. Finally, we went to the Beast's castle and into Belle's father's work room. There was a mirror the beast gave him so that he could visit Belle in the castle anytime. The mirror turned into a door and we got to go into the castle and first into the room with the wardrobe. Then, we went into the library where Luminaire talked to us and Belle came in and had her picture taken with all of the kids. There was a little show with the kids who wanted to participate. Ryan and Charley declined being Mrs. Potts and Chip. They did walk around the room singing with Belle, though, with all of the kids.
I didn't realize Magic Kingdom had so many castles. There is Cinderella's castle, Rapunzel's castle, the beast's (Belle's) castle, and Ariel's castle/Grotto. Oh, I forget, the first person we met was the Fairy Godmother.
Words don't do the day justice. My expectations were high and I figured it wouldn't be what I had built up in my head but it was even better. There were a few times where I got teared up watching Ry and Charley in their princess costumes and their innocence and how awe-struck they were by the princesses, castles, and neat rides--especially It's a Small World. Their eyes were huge and they were smiling and pointing. I asked Ryan if it was as wonderful as she thought it would be and she said "it is wonderfuler."
As were were leaving Magic Kingdom, Mickey and friends did a show in front of the castle and Cinderella and the Fairy Godmother came out and turned it into sparkling lights for Christmas. It was so pretty.
OK, off to bed. Tomorrow we have Hollywood Studies and hopefully will meet Doc McStuffins and Sofia the First.
